how to spend money to improve / decline your luck
Q. I have a vague desire of becoming rich one day. But I don't have any particular educational background or some special skills. So I've been trying not to be extravagant as much as possible. However, I feel that a life of saving money is empty, so I take-out Starbucks coffee every morning, sometimes treat myself to a nice restaurant, or buy designer clothes. I'm also sensitive to what's being talked about on the streets, and I love having the latest gadgets, and home appliances on loan. I think I'm only spending money on "necessary expenses" for myself, but it doesn't make my life any easier. Is it impossible for me to get rich? (Kay, 32)
A. According to a survey of the wealthy, people with good fortune have a habit of thinking about whether they will get a return on their money when they spend it. In other words, they think about "consumption" or "investment." "Consumption" is something that has an immediate return. You get something, temporarily satisfied, and that's it. On the other hand, "investment" is a way of using money that can become some kind of asset for you and bring income in the future, even if you don't get an immediate return. What's more, wealthy people do not waste their time like using taxi transportation and housekeeping services. If you just vaguely save money, your luck of money will stagnate. That's why it's important to spend generously on things you like, as you do. However, if you spend this and that blindly, is it really an "investment"? Let's get into the habit of thinking about how to spend money in a way that will bring you back more in the future.
